Carp fishing constantly opens up new areas that need to be mastered, but above all, understood.

Due to the need to connect ethically-minded carp anglers, it was founded in 2008 Slovenian Sport Carp Anglers Club. A group of passionate enthusiasts of catch and release carp fishing catch and release, joined forces with the desire to elevate carp fishing in Slovenia – both in terms of knowledge and in the way we relate to aquatic life and nature as a whole.

From the start, the club has been working towards:

  • educating fishermen on the proper handling of fish,

  • organising competitions that respect ethical standards,

  • caring for the natural environment and preserving Slovenia's waters.

The members of the club come from different parts of Slovenia, but they are united by a common value: the carp is not prey, but an adversary that deserves respect.

You become a carp angler with your heart, not with your gear

Anyone starting out or already involved in carp polo should first ask themselves: How much does this sport really mean to me? What is my relationship with living beings and nature?

You don't become a carp angler by buying equipment, buying a bag of boilies or watching videos. Posting on social media doesn't make you a thief either. A real carp is born inside you - out of respect, understanding and a genuine passion for living creatures and nature.

Modern carp fishing is not a hunt at any cost. It is about finding the balance between man and fish, between the thrill of the capture and the responsibility towards a living creature. Let us try to understand carp. Let us learn about their world, their habits. Let us accept them as equal opponents who deserve our attention and respect.

Let's hunt with our hearts. Take care not to cause unnecessary injury or stress to the fish. After the fight, let's return them to their home as worthy competitors - healthy, strong and respected.

We are always ready to share our knowledge and experience to share with those who are open to it, who value it, and who are willing to learn from it and apply it.

We choose our equipment and tackle thoughtfully

Success by the water isn’t defined by the newest or priciest gear. Your choice of equipment and tackle is personal – so take the time to choose with care.

We use quality baits that are safe and friendly to fish

We use various baits, and everyone has their own trump card – that secret weapon they trust. But success is never just about the scent, shape, or color.

Pick your fishing gear with your brain, not your budget

The most expensive and newest gear is no guarantee of success by the water. In carp fishing, there are no shortcuts – it's knowledge and experience that make the difference, not the price of the rod or the brand of the reel. Izbira opreme in pribora je osebna odločitev, ki naj temelji na treh ključnih vprašanjih:

  • How much experience do we have?
  • What are our physical capabilities?
  • Where and how will we be fishing?

Only once we know the answers can we thoughtfully choose the gear that serves our needs – not our ego.

The biggest mistake is blindly copying others. The gear someone else praises isn't necessarily right for us. We should trust ourselves, our own fishing style, and learn gradually.

Carp fishing isn’t a competition in gear – it’s about connecting with nature and catching a fish through effort, not a catalogue of equipment.

Premium baits and fish-friendly rigs

We carp anglers swear by different baits, which should be high-quality and fish-friendly – everyone has their own trump card, that secret weapon they trust. But success is never just about the scent, shape, or color. What truly matters are experience, knowledge of the water, and above all, understanding fish behavior.

A bait that works on one water doesn’t necessarily guarantee success elsewhere. That’s why it’s important to adapt and observe. There’s nothing wrong with experimenting, but long-term success is built on knowledge, not luck.

At the same time, we must not forget about safety. We should use reliable and safe rigs that allow fish to free themselves in case of a break-off. Every detail in the rig matters – even the one the fish can’t see, but that can save its life.

Responsible choice of bait and tackle means fishing not just with skill, but with respect. That’s the true mark of a carp angler.

Carp fishing competitions – where passion meets responsibility

Competitive carp fishing is one of the most dynamic and demanding forms of sport angling. For a serious competitor, it’s about more than just the final result – it’s about how that result was achieved. Respect for the fish, nature, and fellow competitors must always remain at the forefront.

In catch-and-release competitions, catch and release, humane handling of all fish species is a fundamental rule. Competitors use gear that minimizes the risk of injury (e.g., soft weigh slings, unhooking mats, wound disinfectants, etc.) and ensure that the fish is returned to the water as quickly and gently as possible.

Every fish matters – not just as a score on the leaderboard, but as a living being that deserves respect and careful handling. Judges and weighmasters closely monitor the weighing process, handling, and release of caught fish, creating a safe environment for the fish and a fair competitive atmosphere for participants.

Competitive carp fishing isn’t about catching carp at any cost. It’s a test of knowledge, tactics, persistence, and a responsible attitude toward both the fish and one’s opponents.

Competitive carp fishing is more than a sport – it’s a platform for promoting ethical practices and a responsible attitude toward our waters and the environment.

Modern carp fishing has brought advanced equipment, innovative techniques, and increased popularity into the world of angling. Unfortunately, this rapid development has also attracted individuals who have skipped over the essential knowledge and respectful approach toward fish. This often results in improper fish handling and a lack of respect for fellow anglers and nature.

The catch-and-release approach is not just a phrase – it's a responsibility. It’s meant to protect the fish, so our top priority should be to cause them as little stress and injury as possible. Use proper unhooking mats, wet hands, safe rigs, and soft nets. Don’t drag the fish out by force or exhaust it unnecessarily – play it with care, always remembering we’re dealing with a living creature, not just a trophy.

Each of us has made mistakes at some point. What matters is recognizing them and improving. We should also help those who are still unaware – offer guidance without judgment, and advice without arrogance.

Let’s reflect:

  • What kind of gear are we using?

  • How do we handle the fish when it reaches the bank?

  • Where and how are we fishing?

  • What kind of bait are we using – and in what quantities?

Angling Ethics – More Than Just Rules

Carp aren't meant to be hauled out with brute force. Treat them with respect – release them alive, healthy, and unharmed.

Ethics means more than following rules. It shows who we are – through respect for nature, care for living creatures, and the spirit that connects us all.
